Expertise
Over more than 30 years, Skeeve has developed expertise across cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, network engineering, critical infrastructure, law enforcement, defence, telecommunications and emerging technologies. His unique strength lies in connecting these disciplines to identify future risks, opportunities and the unintended consequences of technology.
Core Expertise
Cybersecurity
As a former hacker, Skeeve has consulted to government agencies, law enforcement, legal organisations, corporations and critical infrastructure providers. For more than two decades he has delivered keynote presentations and workshops on current and emerging cybersecurity threats, cybercrime and technology risk.
Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Automation & Robotics
Long before the rise of ChatGPT, Skeeve was presenting on the practical risks and implications of Artificial Intelligence. His experience spans commercial robotics, automation platforms and machine learning, with a strong focus on the deployment risks and societal impact of emerging technologies.
He has also designed and deployed Internet of Things (IoT) and automation solutions across retail, commercial, military, hospitality and security industries.
Network Engineering
During a nearly 30-year career as a Network Architect and Engineer, Skeeve designed and built more than 350 ISP networks throughout Australia, New Zealand and Asia. He coined the term Elastic Fabrics and became recognised internationally for large-scale service provider and data centre networking.
His certifications have included Cisco, multiple Juniper JNCIP certifications (SP, SEC and ENT), Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) and Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE). He was also one of Juniper's first Network Certified Champions.
Major projects include:
- Architect of NextDC's AXONVX Elastic Fabric.
- Designed Australia's largest VXLAN deployments.
- Designed the NSW Government bridge and tunnel communications networks, including the Sydney Harbour Bridge and ANZAC Bridge.
- Architect for World Youth Day 2008 supporting over 1,000 media personnel across multiple venues.
- Designed Hoyts' nationwide Digital Cinema network throughout Australia and New Zealand.
Internet of Things (IoT)
For more than 15 years, Skeeve has designed IoT infrastructure for residential, commercial and industrial environments, with recent work concentrating on the security risks associated with connected devices, automation and critical infrastructure.
Risk Analysis & Threat Assessment
Skeeve specialises in analysing technology risk across cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, social media, IoT and critical infrastructure. He regularly presents at cyberwarfare and counter-terrorism events, examining how emerging technologies can be weaponised by criminals, terrorists and nation states.
Beacon & Tracking Technologies
Skeeve has designed and deployed large-scale beacon solutions using Apple iBeacon and Google Eddystone, most notably for Australia Post, providing asset tracking across extensive logistics networks.
Virtual Reality
Founder of VR The World, Skeeve advised organisations on practical applications of Virtual Reality and lectured filmmakers and students on VR production, storytelling, directing, sound, lighting and immersive experiences.
Gamification & Scenario Simulations
Skeeve has developed simulation exercises and gamified workshops for law enforcement, military, government and corporate organisations to improve threat analysis, crisis response and strategic planning.
Industry Experience
Law Enforcement, Policing & Security
Following work with the NSW Police Intelligence Division, Skeeve founded the Future Crime Agency and led a national roadshow throughout Australia, New Zealand and Fiji, helping law enforcement understand the weaponisation of consumer technology and emerging criminal methodologies.
Telecommunications, ISPs & Data Centres
Having designed more than 350 ISP networks, Skeeve has worked with most major telecommunications providers throughout Australia, along with organisations including NextDC, Equinix and Global Switch.
Construction & Building Infrastructure
Designed fibre and communications infrastructure for large residential developments and major multi-dwelling projects across Australia.
Professional Sport
Worked with elite athletes and sporting organisations using wearable technologies, thermal monitoring, performance analytics and tDCS devices including Halo Sport.
Major Events
Designed and delivered the communications infrastructure for World Youth Day 2008, providing connectivity for thousands of staff, media and visitors. He has also supported touring entertainment productions with rapid deployment networking and streaming infrastructure.
Security Industry
Helped security providers across four countries integrate IoT sensors, automation, cameras and smart monitoring into modern security offerings.
Critical Infrastructure
Designed and managed communications infrastructure supporting the Sydney Harbour Bridge, ANZAC Bridge and many other NSW bridges and tunnels, including surveillance systems, access control, switching, routing and central control room infrastructure.
He has also worked with electricity providers to integrate telecommunications services across long-haul fibre infrastructure.
Digital Cinema
Led the nationwide deployment of Hoyts' Digital Cinema infrastructure throughout Australia and New Zealand, as well as projects for other cinema providers.
Retail Point of Sale Networks
Designed and deployed national and international networking solutions for brands including Max Brenner, Sumo Salad, Guzman y Gomez and numerous other retail and hospitality organisations.
Aged Care
Designed communications infrastructure, automation and equipment tracking systems for aged care providers, while researching Virtual Reality and implant technologies to improve outcomes for residents living with dementia and cognitive impairment.
Military & Defence
Participated in Joint Task Force projects for the Australian Department of Defence focusing on micro-drones, emerging technologies and future warfare. He has advised Australian and allied military organisations on the weaponisation of consumer technology and delivered specialist training on technology terrorism and non-state actors.
Hotels & Resorts
Designed and managed networking infrastructure for hotel groups including Wyndham, Hilton, Adina, Vibe, Travelodge and Rendezvous, together with multi-resort infrastructure projects such as Plantation Island, Fiji.
A Cross-Industry Perspective
These examples represent only a portion of Skeeve's experience across more than three decades. His greatest strength lies in connecting knowledge from multiple industries to identify emerging trends, anticipate future risks and understand how technologies intersect, evolve and can ultimately be exploited by bad actors.
